Cheesesteaks and Gumbo

SUPER 16 – The 6th season of the Super 16 kicks off with a dynamite collection of opening weekend matches, headed by the Week 1 Game of the Week as Eagle has landed takes on the Who Dat Saints in a rematch of last season’s semifinal matchup between the teams.  The Who Dats won that game 257-162, advancing to Super Bowl 5.  This year’s rematch is a perfect test of how the league’s new keeper rules will affect game play as both franchises chose to name just a very few hometeam keeper players.

last year’s playoff match between the teams was their first ever meeting, but prior to 2016, Eagle has landed was 2-1 vs the old Karma and a Kicker Saints franchise in the S-16 and two different Saints and Eagle clubs faced off in the League’s 2012 season with the Eagle franchise taking the victory.  Could this Week 1 showdown be the start of a new league rivalry?  The latest line from Vegas has the Who Dats pulling off a victory in the opener but just by a 6 point margin, so it should be an exciting nailbiter.

The first SimulPlay Game of 2017 features two past S16 Champions

The rest of the week 1 matchups look to be just as exciting, led off by the season’s first SimulPlay Game when Roger Tripp’s Birds of Prey take on BEARMINATORS as the NFL’s Falcons and Bears take the field simultaneously.  The Super 16 is the Association‘s most unique format, where each of the 16 teams represents an actual NFL ball club and starts the season with keeper players chosen from their NFL team’s roster.  The remaining rosters are filled out in the draft in a league designed to simulate what football would look like if the existing talent level in the NFL were spread out across only 16 teams instead of 32.  The S-16 utilizes a scheduling inovation known as SimulPlay Games, in which a certain number of the league’s regular season matches take place simultaneously with real world games in the NFL between the representative teams.  This season has 29 SimulPlays scheduled with this exciting match between past S16 Champions leading the way.

The other 2016  semi final matchup gets a week 1 rematch as well as the defending 2016 Champion Northern Fins face meigzoh and his The Dawg Pound. The Fins dispatched the Dawgs 219-185 in last season’s playoffs in route to their Super Bowl 5 victory over the Who Dats, and will be playing this Week 1 match at bye week strength because of Hurricane Irma.  The rest of the week 1 match ups include some all-important divisional games to kick off 2017 including:  The League’s annual A House Divided Game Pt 1 as  The Indy-structibles face their wife and Asst League Commissioner’s Motor City Kitties and  The Battle of Texas Pt 1 between WTF HOUSTON and BIGDOGINTEX, coached by none other than BIGDOGINTEX.  Also on the schedule will be  an S16 match-up between Geno’s Jaw Breakers and Steel Curtain, the annual Western War gets underway when  Coach Mac’s 1 Eye Tile I Die meets Coach Crash’s Arizona Firebirds  and SF’s BowMen get the S-16’s first look at the league’s new franchise, Shrimpy’s Dem Bucking Broncs.
